This is a hollow body acoustic-electric kalimba with 12 keys. It has two octaves plus one note of a special pentatonic scale that I'm calling harmonic-pentatonic. This scale, which is used by the Wagogo tribe of Tanzania and the Baka of the Ituri forest, is a very sweet scale that owes its existence more to physics and the harmonic series than to any human culture. There is a haunting beautiful strangeness to this tuning.
This kalimba has aluminum graphic buzzalizers for a soft sweet sizzle that can be leaned on and off.
The sides of this cute little box are made of clear pine and the top and back are birch plywood.
The piezo pickup is mounted to the thin top wood and hears the keys very evenly and loudly. And this box is very sweet sounding even without amplification.
